Game Room Assistant Spring 2023

Job Summary:
This position is designed for students interested in joining the Game Room staff to help create a lively and inclusive environment for the UNC Asheville community. This position provides hands-on experience in customer service, policy enforcement, and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with patrons, maintain a professional relationship with patrons and other staff members, and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
 
A. Primary Job Responsibility
  1. Maintain daily operations of the Highsmith Game Room including opening/closing, checking in/out equipment, and upkeep of the space
  2. Greet patrons as they enter the Game Room and provide friendly customer service
  3. Maintain regular communication with other staff members through the use of the Game Room Shift Log
  4. Create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for Game Room patrons
  5. Assist patrons with any issues related to the Game Room and any equipment issued by our staff
  6. Operate the cash register in the event of any charges/fines for damages
  7. Attend bi-weekly area meetings and monthly Highsmith staff meetings
  8. May be required to drive University Vehicles to conduct University Business on behalf of Highsmith Student Union.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned
  10. Availability on nights and weekends highly preferred.

 
B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Knowledge of Highsmith policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of events in the Highsmith Union and throughout campus
  3. Knowledge of campus departments and campus layout
  4. Maintain a good working relationship with the building managers
  5. Excellent Customer Service skills
  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills
  7. Knowledge of cash handling policies and procedures.
  8. Ability to learn new software programs and technical equipment.
  9. One Port Time Management Software
  10. Cumulative 2.0 GPA  
 
C. Physical Requirements
  1. Lifting 30-40 pounds (equipment & supplies)
  2. Bending and reaching
  3. Standing/sitting for long periods of time
  4. Handwork
