Videography Intern - Sophomore On-Campus Internship Program

The UNC Asheville Sophomore On-Campus Internship Program provides funding for sophomore students to pursue a project-based experience related to their targeted areas of career exploration while enrolled in a reflection-based course. This experience is intended to be a first step before pursuing an off-campus internship.

Videography Intern - Spring 2023 Internship Opportunity

Campus Recreation is excited to welcome a Department Videography Intern for the Spring 2023 semester. This sophomore student will work directly with professional staff in the department to develop and manage multiple video projects that will help educate the campus community on our services and programs.

As the largest student employer on campus, Campus Recreation is committed to student employee development and the use of NACE competencies guiding our current evaluation process. The Department Videography Intern will regularly encounter opportunities to practice and improve upon communication and teamwork as they work with professional staff and student peers to start, review, and collaborate on projects. Their work will also heavily utilize technology as they film, edit and ultimately create high quality videos ready to publish to the web and social media. This intern will have independent work time, thinking critically about the goals of the video and if the current product is on a path to accomplish those goals. Video shoots and finished products are expected to be professional. The intern will take the lead to set the tone and manage shoots, and to understand and reflect Campus Recreation as a space of inclusion to all abilities, skills, experiences, and identities. Finally, this student will be expected to attend all department meetings and trainings that also support the knowledge and growth of these competencies.

This internship will work on collecting content and clips and ultimately creating videography projects that are designed to engage and highlight programs and overall department offerings of Campus Recreation for the campus and broader community. The student intern will work with their supervisor and others across the department to collect video samples from a variety of programs and events and then edit and combine them into a single promotional video that can be used across a variety of platforms to help engage students, faculty and staff, and community members with the mission and values of Campus Recreation. The internship will also work with university Marketing and Communications early on in order to ensure final published videos include all necessary university components (i.e. closed captioning, branding, resolution, etc.)

The intern should have the interest and ability to collect, shoot, edit, and create video projects related to Campus Recreation programming and departmental offerings. Be knowledgeable or familiar with video editing software including iMovie or similar. The ability to manage time effectively and work with other staff members across the department to accomplish project goals within agreed-upon timelines.
