Marketing Intern - Sophomore On-Campus Internship Program

The UNC Asheville Sophomore On-Campus Internship Program provides funding for sophomore students to pursue a project-based experience related to their targeted areas of career exploration while enrolled in a reflection-based course. This experience is intended to be a first step before pursuing an off-campus internship. 

Marketing Intern - Spring 2023 Internship Opportunity

In this role, you will work closely with the Marketing Manager to implement and promote the dining program here at UNC Asheville. This involves research to understand the needs of the target market, planning & brainstorming, promotions & advertising through various platforms, and implementation. This is not your average internship; you will be spearheading various projects and will be able to request assignments to expand your knowledge base. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in the field of marketing.

  • Learn how to create and implement a marketing plan.

Role Responsibilities (may include any or all):
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and hosting events
  • Assist with Dine on Campus
  • Assist in social media calendar development and promotions
  • Act as a brand representative
  • Conduct marketing audits
  • Conduct general administrative tasks
  • Complete Marketing Boot Camp
  • Survey students to collect market research
  • Create marketing materials to numerous specifications
  • Manage signage in multiple locations
  • Assist with the creation of concepts, campaigns, and imagery to effectively communicate messages to the target market
  • Manage website and social networking profile content
  • Attend meetings or other events as required

Strong applicants will demonstrate:
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Customer service experience/knowledge
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Good to better interpersonal skills
  • General interest and knowledge
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools is a plus
  • Prior marketing-related experience is a plus

Student + Application Requirements
 
  • Sophomore standing 
  • 2.5 GPA or higher 
  • In your cover letter, address how the internship aligns with current career goals
  • Complete a minimum of 105 hours of internship experience, including the completion of at least one project deliverable with the guidance of their internship supervisor
  • Must enroll in IST 325 for Spring 2022, a 3 credit hour interdisciplinary internship course 
  • Must complete a pre- and post-self evaluation
  • Must create and submit a video demonstrating their learning and reflection at the end of the internship experience

Timeline

  • Applications are due by 11:59PM on December 16
  • Interviews between December 19 and January 11 and be coordinated by individual supervisors
  • All required hiring documentation will be completed and submitted on January 12 + 13
  • Interns will enroll in IST 325 and attend the first course session on January 13
  • Internships will take place between the second Monday of the spring semester through the end of the semester

Students planning to apply for any of the on-campus internships should ensure they have all necessary hiring documents on-hand for the January paperwork process.
