  • Assist in collecting water quality samples from watershed lakes and streams. This person will learn the proper techniques of collection and documentation along with watershed dynamics.
  • Assist in managing water supply watershed lakes and conducting inspections and maintenance of high hazard earthen dams. This person will learn about aquatic ecosystems along with the practice and importance of proper dam maintenance, monitoring, and liabilities of high hazards dams.
  • Assist in forestry management activities to include restoration of the longleaf wiregrass ecosystem and protection of its associated endangered and threatened flora and fauna to include the red-cockaded woodpecker and various carnivorous plants.
  • Assist in identifying and controlling exotic invasive plant species both aquatic and terrestrial and managing for native species. This person will learn how a healthy forest system depends on biodiversity and how a healthy forest promotes good water quality.
  • Assist in monitoring and stabilizing erosion control problem areas that impact the water supply for Fayetteville. This person will learn how to stabilize eroding areas in various ways using natural and fabricated materials.
  • Assist in sanitary sewer overflow response. This person will learn different ways of cleanup, monitoring, and sampling water after a sanitary sewer spill.
  • Assist in security fence line inspections and small fence repairs. This person will learn how to repair chain link and woven wire fence to ensure the security of the PWC watershed properties and high hazard earthen dams.
  • Participate in public relations events. This person may help in public relations activities that come up during the summer.
  • The student may be exposed to elements that includes, but is not limited to, variety of weather conditions and water borne bacteria.
