Study Abroad Advisor I

The Study Abroad Advisor has the responsibility for managing a set of semester/summer study abroad programs including meeting with and advising students and maintaining communication with the study abroad providers. The Study Abroad Advisor will assist with program selection, housing options and coordinate with the student’s academic advisor for choosing appropriate courses. This position is also responsible for delivering pre-departure orientation to students on their programs on best practices and safety considerations.
The Study Abroad Advisor will take a lead role in promoting study abroad to prospective and new students to make them aware that study abroad is doable without delaying graduation and often very affordable. The person will use data from Navigate, SalesForce, TerraDotta, and other sources to help make decisions. Coordination with other study abroad partners on campus is expected. A particular focus is on those groups of students who typically are not as likely to study abroad. This person will also lead the Study Abroad Center scholarship committee.

Position Description & Responsibilities
Study Abroad Program Advising

  • Advises students, faculty, and staff on international study and work opportunities.
  • Creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date information and budgets to enable students to select appropriate programs abroad. Informs students of university administrative procedures relevant to study abroad (registration, financial aid, credit transfer, etc.)
  • Assists students in the study/intern abroad process, including orientation, assistance with documents, and responding to student and family member inquiries and concerns.
  • Communicates frequently with overseas partners.
Targeted Outreach

  • Take a leading role in promoting study abroad to ISU students.
  • Coordination of activities to reach prospective, incoming, and first-year students to increase awareness of accessibility and affordability of studying abroad program.
  • Specific emphasis on outreach with those student populations who have historically been less likely to study abroad.
  • Use Navigate, Salesforce, and other data sources to help identify and communicate with target populations.
  • Coordinate with colleges as needed for outreach activities.
Study Abroad Center Scholarship Chair

  • Supervise the scholarship committee
  • Process applications
  • Maintains scholarship account balance and targeted expenditure
  • Communication of committee decisions to the Director
  • Ensuring successful scholarship awarding to a student's bill
