Undergraduate Public Affairs Video Production Intern

Undergraduate Public Affairs Video Production Intern


Education and/or Equivalent Experience: 

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university undergraduate degree program, with some advanced coursework related to the internship program.

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
 
  1. Observe and assist professionals in the assigned department to learn about areas of career interest. 
  2. Assists, as necessary, in the coordination, administration, or monitoring of specific programs. 
  3. Assists, as necessary, with researching, collecting, and organizing data, performing analyses, and preparing reports to supplement knowledge gained through academic courses. 
  4. Participates, as necessary, in finding solutions to existing problems and discusses recommendations with administrative personnel to acquire skills in problem-solving. 
  5. Assists with special projects. 

Overview of the Position:
This position will assist the Public Affairs team in producing compelling visual and written communications for internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will get the opportunity to build crucial storytelling skills by helping us creatively tell the Austin Public Works’ story. This internship will help build film portfolios with actual assignments, challenges, and outcomes. Expect to develop hands-on foundational career skills in self-management, planning, execution, communication, and team collaboration. 

Primary responsibilities will include the conception of ideas, traveling to multiple locations around Austin (sometimes consecutively) to direct and shoot videos, take photos, and then edit and fully produce videos and supplemental images. Additional duties consist of designing/developing marketing materials, creating social media campaigns, writing for the department newsletter(s), maintaining the website, and contributing to community outreach for the Public Works department.

We are expecting this internship opportunity to span from Mid Spring 2022 through Mid Fall 2022, with a potential for an extension depending on business needs.

  • working in Adobe Premiere, color correcting shots, and
  • utilizing industry-standard techniques to get the best
  • audio
  • Working with sound and lighting in various
  • settings to achieve professional results
  • Traveling to multiple work locations to capture footage

Pay: $15.00/hour
