Special Assistant, Research, to the President and CEO

Overview

The Atlantic Council seeks an internationally experienced, curious, and dynamic self-starter with proven writing, editing, research, organizational, and social media prowess to serve as Special Assistant, Research, to the President and CEO. German-speaking and writing capability an advantage.
As a core member of the Executive Office, this individual works in close coordination with the President and CEO and the Atlantic Council’s Editorial team, leading the research for and production, editing, and execution of Inflection Points, the President and CEO’s weekly newsletter and CNBC column examining the defining geopolitical issues facing the United States and our global community of allies.
The Special Assistant, Research, will be responsible for providing a high-profile executive with world-class research, writing, and social media management to strengthen media engagement.
The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional research skills, including the capacity to quickly synthesize complex global political and economic issues, drawing on a wide range of domestic and international sources. Beyond this, this individual will also coordinate media appearances and oversee social media management, thought leadership, and public speaking engagements on behalf of the President and CEO.
Journalism training and experience highly preferred, as the position requires writing and editing on tight deadlines with meticulous attention to accuracy, clarity, and grammar. 
The position requires excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Moreover, this individual will be a highly capable self-starter with a demonstrated aptitude for analytical thinking, exceptional writing, effective editing, and clear communication with minimal oversight. They must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while managing multiple projects as a core member of a collaborative, high-impact Executive Office team.
The Executive Office seeks candidates who have international experience and are available to work evenings and weekend hours, as they will be required. 

Job responsibilities

  • Engage in day-to-day coordination and management of Inflection Points, a widely distributed weekly newsletter and CNBC column, including daily curation of news and commentary, development of topics and themes, production of drafts, and execution of the final product.
  • Conduct research for book projects, speaking engagements, and other writing and special projects as assigned in quickly digestible formats.
  • Oversee the President and CEO’s social media engagement while tracking key metrics and data to maximize impact and develop a more streamlined and strengthened online presence.
  • Other research and administrative duties, as necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, international relations, business, or related fields.
  • Minimum of two years of editorial and research experience with demonstrated track record of success managing digital and social media platforms.
  • Ability to take on research assignments and research, write, and edit quickly, clearly, and with minimal supervision on tight deadlines.
  • Flexible, get-it-done attitude, and ability to multitask, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within teams across the organization.
  • Robust technical skills, including but not limited to experience with HTML, web publishing and content-management systems, layout design, along with data management, visualization, and analysis.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • International experience required.
