NASA SCaN Telerobotics Activity Design with ARISS (SIP)

ARISS proposes a new, engaging ISS K-12 STEM education experience called *STAR*--Space Telerobotics using Amateur Radio. In the field of robotics, Telerobotics allows a robot to be operated remotely from a distance using wireless techniques. Practical examples of telerobotics include the Perseverance Mars rover, the Lunakhod lunar rover, and the ISS Robonaut.

ARISS *STAR* will offer a stimulating and expandable set of hands-on telerobotic activities to inspire, engage, and educate disadvantaged youth. The experiential learning derived from ARISS *STAR* experiences will demonstrate to these youth that careers in these STEM fields are exciting and within their reach. The student will help ARISS personnel develop the activity, schedule the timeline for phased roll-out with schools, and advise on an outreach plan for organizations & schools that engage with underserved populations.

Candidates should have some experience with hands-on robotics, preferably within a high school or middle school outreach context (Vex, Mindstorm, FIRST robotics, etc.) as well as with amateur radio.
Ideal candidates will show experience with outreach as well as communicating accessibly and engagingly with underserved populations.
Strong preference will be given to licensed ham radio operators.

Eligibility Requirements:
• U.S. Citizen
• GPA 3.0+ (on a 4.0 scale)
