Post Bachelor Research Associate - Environmental Justice

The Earth Systems Science Division at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is currently seeking a Post Bachelor Research Associate to join its Risk and Environmental Assessment (REA) Group. The individual will work with a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts to assist federal agencies evaluate environmental impacts of federal activities, especially those related to environmental justice, and support engagement opportunities for diverse stakeholder communities around climate- and energy-related federal projects to satisfy regulatory requirements.

Through their work, the candidate will develop an internal and external network of collaborators and project partners and participate in professional societies at the regional and national level. The position requires that the candidate complies with PNNL policies regarding environmental health and safety, waste management, and protection of intellectual property. The position is immediately available with possible transition to a permanent position, dependent upon available funding and sustained performance.

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.

Preferred Qualifications
An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to data quality and accuracy, strong written and oral communication skills as evidenced by scientific publications and conference presentations and be able to work independently and in a team setting. Additional necessary qualifications include:
  • Use of stakeholder engagement tools such as surveys and public commenting platforms/forums
  • Involvement in engagement opportunities for diverse stakeholder communities (e.g., meetings and webinars)
  • Strong written and presentation skills for diverse audiences
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • B.S. or B.A. in Environmental Policy, Environmental Justice, Anthropology, or related field
  • Coursework or equivalent experience using GIS applications such as ArcGIS
  • Coursework or equivalent experience with the National Environmental Policy Act
