Intellectual Property (IP) Assistant

Princeton University Press seeks a skilled multi-tasker who is organized and has an interest in books, academia and publishing. The Intellectual Property (IPA) Assistant supports all areas of the IP department, namely contracts, permissions, and subsidiary rights staff, working in close collaboration with the Permissions Manager, Contracts Director, International Rights Manager, Digital and Audio Publisher and Director of Rights, Contracts and Permissions.
 
Position Duties
·   Data entry of contracts and subrights into PUP’s systems and data clean-up as needed
·   Archival of agreements on the PUP’s drives, Title Management System (Biblio) and physical files
·   Assist the Editorial department in providing alternative language and addenda to author contracts
·   Assist the Contract Manager in ensuring full execution of contracts through DocuSign
·   Registering copyright with the Library of Congress of all PUP published titles
·   Processing permission requests coming from third parties
·   General assistance to the IP Department, including rights checking, clerical tasks such as mailing of books, contracts and other materials as needed
 
Position Requirements
·   Degree from a four-year college or university, preferred but not required, or equivalent experience, and a minimum of 1 year of experience in publishing (e.g. internships included). 
·    Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirements
·   An interest in copyright, publishing, and fundamental of the general publishing process and contracts
·   Strong and versatile communication skills as the role entails in-person and in-meeting conversation, as well as multi-format written communication. 
·   Demonstrable time-management, organizational skills, appreciation for detail and problem solving skills.
·   Confidence with independent work, and as part of a larger collective with common goals.
·   Computer proficiency, including databases and Microsoft Office. 
·   Prior experience with title management systems (e.g. Biblio) and marketing management systems preferred but not required.
·   Enthusiasm for collaboration, and commitment to professional codes of conduct, located at https://press.princeton.edu/about/mission-values.
·   While the Princeton, NJ office is currently closed due to the pandemic, once the office reopens, interested candidates need be able to work from the Press’s NJ office for networking and professional development. Flexibility with in-office days will be permitted.

Base Salary: $40,000/year plus comprehensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience.
