Pipe Organ Technician - Musical Instrument Manufacturer

Job Title: Pipe Organ (Instrument) Technician
A pipe organ technician is responsible for working in conjunction with other employees for the proper care, maintenance and long-term operation of pipe organ. The role will ultimately be responsible for a broad range of skills including new construction, diagnostics on existing instruments, repairs, tunings and customer service.

Responsibilities:
  • Hands-on construction of new instruments from drawings
  • Understanding of different organ mechanics and the ability to diagnose related problems
  • Understanding of DC electricity and the ability to diagnose related problems
  • Regular tuning of instruments throughout the Southeast
  • Repairs and renovations of existing instruments
  • Use of hand and power tools to accomplish tasks.
  • Plan, prepare, and monitor progress on assigned tasks as they relate to the overall production schedule.
  • Streamline production processes. Document improvements or processes of assigned tasks
  • Extensive travel is required during peak pipe organ servicing time

Qualifications:
  • No experience necessary! On-the-job training provided.
  • Background check conducted on all new hires
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Well groomed, clean personal appearance
  • Ability to respect customer, employee and administrative confidentiality.
  • Ability to respect differences in religious, political and social values of others.
  • Good interpersonal skills evident in communication both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail
  • Quick learner with good memory retention
  • Provide basic hand tools to complete tasks

Working conditions:
  • Bending, lifting, carrying and standing for long periods of time
  • Technicians are often exposed to heights, scaffolding and very confined work spaces while in the field
  • General factory work is non-conditioned in the summer (hot warehouse work) and can expose the technician to smells, loud noise, dust, some chemicals and aerosols. Please take note of this when applying for the job
  • Mandatory out of town travel is approximately 50% of annual working hours, often for days or weeks at a time. Most travel is less than two-weeks in duration.
  • On-site work is conducted in religious buildings, colleges and private residences.
  • When Home: Normal hours include Monday - Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM
  • When Traveling: Hours will be as needed, but can expect to work 10 hour days, 6 days a week

Compensation:
  • Full-time (travel often required)
  • Starting pay $14/hourly for 40 hour week & $21/time over 40 hours
  • Travel pay: $22/hrly. & $29/OT. When traveling we pay an $8 premium IN ADDITION to normal hourly & overtime wage. (example: based on $14/hr base plus travel bonus of $8/hr = $22/hrly rate). Travel will generally include 6/10 hour days. Time worked over 40 hours would be paid travel overtime pay.
