Nature Publications Coordinator

Princeton University Press (PUP) seeks an enthusiastic, inspired, and highly organized professional with at least two years of book publishing experience (preferably in reference books) to be the Nature Publications Coordinator. This role will be a member of the Editorial department and support the Publisher for Nature through all stages of the life cycle of each-and-every book, from concept through publication, and will play a key role in the management and publication of the Press’ distinctive and outstanding books on the natural world. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: full administrative support of the Publisher, coordination and management of peer review, support of manuscript and illustration development, author outreach and management, and liaison with international co-publishers. The Nature Publication Coordinator will also collaborate regularly with colleagues in production, digital publishing, marketing, and sales.

Position Duties
Provide the following support for the Publisher for Nature:
·   Take a central and collaborative role in the day-to-day management of the Nature list and gain essential and detailed experience on all aspects of editorial and other processes involved in this area of reference publishing.
·   Assist in the acquisition, development, and publishing of distinctive and outstanding books and digital apps.
·   Maintain data integrity for all books on the Publisher’s list contributing to the efficient flow of materials and information using the Biblio title-management system.
·   Contract preparation and tracking.
·   Manage pipeline of projects under contract, including regular communication with authors.
·   Liaise with artists and illustrators in support of production of the Nature list.
·   Transmit completed manuscripts to production.
·   Support strategic implementation of Equity & Inclusion (E&I) goals for the list.
·   Serve as a liaison between authors and the Press.
·   Facilitate effective communication and collaboration within the organization and beyond.
 
Position Requirements
·   A minimum of two years’ experience in book publishing.
·   Previous exposure to duties enumerated above.
·   A curiosity for and confidence with reference publishing.
·   Strong and versatile communication skills as the role entails in-person and in-meeting conversation, as well as multi-format written communication. 
·   Capacity for creative problem solving. 
·   Demonstrable time-management and organizational skills, and appreciation for detail.
·   Confidence with independent work, and as part of a larger collective with common goals.
·   Advocacy skills. 
·   Degree from a four-year college or university, preferred but not required, or equivalent experience.
·   Computer proficiency, including databases and Microsoft Office. 
·   Prior experience with title management systems (e.g. Biblio) and marketing management systems preferred but not required.
·   Enthusiasm for collaboration, and commitment to professional codes of conduct, located at https://press.princeton.edu/about/mission-values.
·   While the Princeton, NJ office is currently closed due to the pandemic, once the office reopens, interested candidates need be able to work from the Press’s NJ office for networking and professional development. Flexibility with in-office days will be permitted.

Base Salary: $45,000/year plus comprehensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience.
