Job Title: Data Pipeline Developer (Research Data Specialist II)

California Energy Commission seeks a Data Pipeline Developer in the Energy Data and Analytics Office.

The Energy Data and Analytics Office is responsible for organization-wide infrastructure, tools, automation, security, and governance required to effectively manage and analyze the Commission’s data assets. The office leads the Commission’s current efforts to modernize all aspects of data handling and analysis, including utilizing cloud computing resources, implementing standardized and automated data pipelines, enhancing the accessibility and quality of Commission data for both internal and external users, and adopting modern data science tools and software.

A Data Pipeline Developer develops and maintains data pipelines, relational data models, and data views to efficiently ingest, process, validate, format, store, and query structured, semi-structure, and unstructured data. Developers are technically skilled at various data engineering tasks and able to creatively address new data integration challenges ranging from scraping small public data sources to working with the Commission’s own terabyte-scale datasets. They do not conduct analyses requiring advanced knowledge of statistics or energy policy. Applicants should enjoy problem solving, learning, automation, big data, and the challenges of efficiently moving, processing, and serving data.
