Gallery Internship

Kapoor Galleries Inc. seeks a detail oriented, reliable, and enthusiastic intern. Applicant must be highly motivated and a self- starter. This is an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience and learn about the workings of a highly specialized fine art gallery. 
In addition to administrative duties that aid the day-to-day operation of the gallery, the ideal candidate should be able to assist with research and writing projects and be comfortable producing short texts in a timely manner. Other requirements include excellent phone etiquette and strong organizational skills, self-motivation, computer proficiency, as well as a strong interest in classical Indian and Himalayan Art. 
The position’s responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following: • Greeting all gallery visitors and answering general questions. • Archival duties, including web research, auction results research, press kit assembly and preparation of support materials. • Administrative duties, book and supply inventory, general gallery upkeep. • Miscellaneous errands and special projects, as needed. • Help build and maintain contact database • Assist with preparing and sending out press materials in a prompt manner, Help with the updating of the gallery’s website and social media, • Research on bibliographic information, exhibition history, and provenance, as necessary • Maintenance of registrar and other administrative files, knowledge of art database software preferred • Assist with the organization of catalog production 
The ideal candidate: • Fluent in Microsoft Office and web research; experience with gallery based inventory software and with photoshop/illustrator, as well as WordPress • Strong verbal, writing and problem-solving skills. • Ability to perform well under pressure and deal effectively with competing demands. • A working knowledge and passion for classical Indian and Himalayan Art. • Flexibility to work evening openings/ art fairs (approximately one per month). (Asia Week NY) • Photography and retouching experience/ Skills, especially with fine art. •Foreign language a plus This position is unpaid, but offers a $20/day stipend, as well as a $30/month transportation stipend and opportunity for school credit. All relevant costs will be covered by the gallery. Weekly schedule and duration of internship are both flexible
