Air Monitoring Chemist
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Program is recruiting a new Air Monitoring Chemist at the entry or senior level depending on applicant qualifications. Successful candidates for this position will exhibit a strong background in chemistry along with a passion for the research and development involved in the chemical analysis of emerging air contaminants affecting our state. This position will be based out of the Madison (Dane County) or Milwaukee (Milwaukee County) DNR office depending on department need and applicant preference.

Position Summary:
This position performs highly specialized air monitoring and chemistry work at multiple locations across the state. Duties will include the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and analysis of various environmental studies involving atmospheric chemistry of various air pollutants. The specific areas of focus for this position include hazardous air pollutants, wet and dry deposition analysis methods, ozone formation and ozone precursors, along with emerging and legacy pollutants of concern including PFAS. The Air Monitoring Chemist is a dual role position with statewide responsibilities involving both air monitoring fieldwork and data management.
Qualifications:
Minimally qualified candidates will have:
- Education, training or experience in one of the following: analytical chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, physical chemistry, medical chemistry, environmental chemistry or similar;
- Experience maintaining, processing, manipulating and ensuring the quality of data collected;
Well-qualified candidates will have:
- Experience utilizing lab analytical procedures for chemical analysis or air monitoring
- Experience with hazardous air pollutants, ozone pre-cursors PFAS or other emerging contaminants
- Experience conducting environmental studies involving analytical or atmospheric chemistry
- Degree in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry or similar
