Cultural Organizer

Start Date: February 1, 2021

Overview: Join us in building a stronger and more vibrant community through creative movement building. 

This position is shared between two values-aligned non-profits: The Industrial Commons (TIC) and TOSS Studio (TOSS). These organizations work together to improve the health and wellbeing of our rural communities.

As you might imagine, long term change doesn’t happen overnight. How do you grow participation in a shared vision, promoting a better future for all? This “Cultural Organizer & Movement Builder” will develop student and community programming to promote the creative development of our community, including projects such as student art initiatives in our public schools, collaborations with Work in Burke, and public art projects such as Hometown Walkabout or Realidades del Sur.



Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management: Participation, Education
  • Manage and develop industrial art residency programs
  • Plan, design, and execute pop-up events, public art projects, community engagement, and other events
  • Manage and develop community and student art programing
  • Maintain community art spaces
Marketing and Organizational Development
  • Research industry trends and conduct community needs assessments
  • Develop and lead engagement events, promotional opportunities and presentations
  • Assist with financial systems and grants

Skills and Experience Required:

  • We are seeking someone with experience in or a passion for teaching, creativity and/or community organizing
  • Must have excellent, proactive communication and problem-solving skills. Must develop, communicate, and advance a unique, cohesive creative aesthetic. Must be motivated, open and willing to learn. Must be able to manage projects to completion.
  • The following would be a plus: experience with photoshop, indesign, or illustrator; 3-5 years of work experience, proficiencies in photography, bilingual in English and Spanish

Compensation, Benefits and Conditions:
  • Salaried position, salary dependent on experience
  • Position will start with a 90-day probationary period
  • Position will require employee to live in Morganton, NC
  • TIC will support upgrades to resources and tools needed to carry out the work
  • Mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal rate
  • Cell phone reimbursement
  • 18 PTO days, 10 Holidays
  • 3% cost of living raise annually
