Environmental Education Leadership Development Program (O'ahu, Hawai'i)

Kupu, Hawai‘i’s leading conservation and education nonprofit, is seeking individuals to take part in the upcoming Environmental Education Leadership Development Program. This 11-month paid opportunity, helps develop individuals looking for an intensive entry-level experience in preparation for a teaching career focusing on conservation or environmental science.

This year, Kupu has partnered with over 10 different Department of Education schools throughout O‘ahu. Assist in the implementation of environmental/culturally focused sustainable school initiatives. Inspire the next generation of Environmental and Cultural Stewards of Hawai'i. Coordinate field trips, Summer and Spring intersession programs, enhance school green spaces, implement sustainable school initiatives and create engaging lesson plans by utilizing Kupu's vast networks within the environmental community.

OPPORTUNITIES OVERVIEW
Serve alongside teachers and students, supporting their knowledge relating to conservation, environmental science, Hawaiian culture studies, STEM or sustainability. When you become a Kupu Environmental Education Leader you will assist in the creation and organization of after-school Eco/Green clubs, intersession camps, aid in classroom presentations, assist on classroom projects, and coordinate field trips utilizing Kupu’s extensive network of conservation partners. You will have the opportunity to make a difference to individuals and the wider community.
While tasks vary from school to school, participants can expect to serve one-on-one with a teacher to gain a more in-depth understanding of what it's like to teach at different Hawaiian schools and to varying age groups. Participants can expect this full-time opportunity to begin immediately after the program start date and will be expected to commit to the program from Monday through Friday.

Due to the individual nature of the Environmental Leadership Development Program and the length of the service term, members are held to a high degree of personal responsibility. Applicants are required to:
- Provide their own housing and transportation
Pass a criminal history check/driving history check/drug test
- Display excellent organizational, written and interpersonal skills
Must be 21 years and older
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Hawaiian Studies or an environmentally focused field
