Navy Undergraduate Mechanical Engineer Researcher

Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton conducts research on environmental health effects and aerospace medicine, addressing health and performance challenges faced by service members in operational military environments.
The selected undergraduate student will participate in the development of Disorientation Research Device (DRD) mechanical monitoring systems. This includes commercial off-the-shelf applications modified to work in the environment of motion. Documentation of field modifications to the DRD, participate in writing technical reports describing modification testing and analysis. Participate in preventative maintenance program execution, refinement, maintenance procedure modifications, corrective maintenance logistics and documentation. The participant will assist in new technology integration into the DRD, including research capabilities, electro-mechanical component upgrades and other service life extension initiatives.

Appointment Length
This ORISE appointment is for a 3 month period.  Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by NAMRU-D. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
