Trails Technician - NYS Parks Thousand Islands Region

TITLE:     Trails Technician
PAY RATE:   $14.96/hour
LOCATION:   Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Clinton Counties
TYPE:       Temporary/Seasonal
WORK SCHEDULE:      Mon-Fri – Occasional weekend work may be necessary.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Trails Technicians will work primarily out of Wellesley Island State Park but travel throughout the Thousand Islands Region. Technicians will work under the Regional Trails Coordinator and alongside Regional Invasive Species Technicians and Conservation Steward interns to mitigate the degradation of trails and public lands by building trail structures, resurfacing, and rerouting where necessary. Other duties may include: educating the public on good trail stewardship, blow-down and hazard tree removal, invasive plant removal, invasive pest monitoring, organizing volunteer cleanups, and working with Minna Anthony Common Nature Center staff to improve the immediate grounds of the building.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, a willingness to learn, and general knowledge of the natural environment and enthusiasm to share that with others. Must be able to maintain a positive attitude when performing physical work in a wide range of weather conditions and participate in problem solving as a team. It is essential to interact professionally with a wide array of Parks staff and patrons.
Coursework in biology, ecology, environmental studies, natural resources management, or other relevant disciplines such as forestry, conservation biology, etc. is preferred. Some knowledge of New York flora and fauna, power tool/chainsaw safety, functional orienteering, frontcountry camping, and Leave No Trace knowledge is beneficial.
AVAILABLE BENEFITS:
