Geographic Information Systems Internship

The TDEC Office of Strategic Initiatives and GIS is seeking a college student for an unpaid internship opportunity located at the William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower at 312 Rosa Parks Ave., Nashville, TN.

The goal of Office of Strategic Initiatives and GIS is to provide better data management and more accurate analyses for data-driven decision making in the divisions of State Parks and Conservation as well as the Tennessee Historical Commission. By leveraging web and desktop GIS tools, we provide powerful spatial statistics and visual outputs that are intuitive and dynamic – aiding our users, decision-makers, and stakeholders to make smart, data-driven decisions.

•Producing PDF maps of state parks and other TDEC properties usingArcMap and ArcGIS Pro

•Assisting in data collection and data management using ArcGIS Onlineand ArcGIS Pro

•Assisting in building web and mobile GIS tools for park staff usingproducts such as Survey123 for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Web App Builder

The successful candidate must have strong skills with computers and mobile devices and should have completed at least one GIS course. The candidate should know how to generate a PDF map in either ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro and have some knowledge of geodatabase design standards. ArcGIS Online experience is helpful, but not required.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a college or university focusing on a degree in Geography, Earth Science, History, Anthropology, Tourism Studies, or a related field. Candidates must receive college credit for their internship and be an undergraduate at an accredited college or university.
