The Data Science Intern is a full-time 40 hours per week internship available starting in July 2018. The internship is designed to provide quality work experience to a current undergraduate or graduate college student or recent graduate within the past year. The internship is designed to give students an opportunity to complement their formal education with career-related experience. The intern must be able to commit to working on-site for the duration of the internship.
This position is non-benefitted and would last approximately four months with the possibility of extending up to six months.
We are seeking either an undergraduate or graduate intern. Compensation for the intern will depend on education and experience level.
Data Science Intern (undergraduate) Pay Grade:
Minimum:$15.77/hour
Midpoint: $20.53/hour
Maximum:$25.24/hour
Graduate Data Science Intern Pay Grade:
Minimum:$22.26/hour
Midpoint:$30.63/hour
Maximum:$38.94/hour
Data Science Intern (undergraduate)
Role Summary: Assist Mission data scientists in building mathematical models for use in forecasting key clinical and business indicators. Collect, validate, and analyze data and prototype models for use in production systems. Document the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of these tools.
Core Responsibilities:
Perform data collection, data cleaning, data validation, and reporting tasks for analytical systems and applications

Support the analysis and validation of estimation, forecasting, and optimization models
Basic Qualifications:
Enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mathematics, Statistics, or other relevant field.
Aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new analytical methods, software applications, and tools
Strong organizational and time management skills; exceptional attention to detail
Experience using at least one programming language (ex: JavaScript, Python, R, C/C++/C#).
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Moderate level skill in MS Excel (ex: pivot tables).

Familiarity with MS Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred qualifications: (very strong preference given to candidates with these skills)
Experience using R or Python (> 500 hours)
Understanding of database structure; experience using SQL (>100 hours)

Experience using statistical methods such as linear regression, generalized linear models, dimensionality reduction (ex: principle components analysis), clustering (ex: hierarchal, k-means)
Graduate Data Science Intern
Role Summary: To build statistical and mathematical models for use in algorithm engines through the enterprise analytical platform. Collect, validate, and analyze data and prototype models for use in production systems. Document the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of these tools, and the measured impact of improvement initiatives on processes and outcomes.
Core responsibilities:
Perform data collection, data cleaning, data validation, and reporting tasks for analytical systems and applications
Support the analysis and validation of estimation, forecasting, and optimization models
Model and analyze clinical- and business-related topics using various statistical, mathematical, and simulation techniques

Design and develop algorithm engines for deployment in the enterprise analytical platform
Basic qualifications:
Currently enrolled in, or recently completed study, from a graduate school program leading to a Masters in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or related field.
Proven experience with statistical, forecasting, and/or optimization software such as R or Python, or SAS.
Demonstrated strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
Demonstrated strong partnering and relationship-building skills
Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to learn new analytical methods, software applications, and tools

Preferred qualifications:
Proficiency in R or Python
Proficiency in SQL
Proficiency in statistical methods such as linear regression, generalized linear models, and hierarchical/mixed models
Proficiency with forecasting methodologies

Prior research or experience in healthcare
