SALARY: $36,369.22 - $55,786.85 Annually

Bachelor's degree in graphic design or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of related training and education. Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment. Evening and weekend work hours may be required.

Graphics Designer 1EF01 description imageGraphics Designer 1EF01 description imageThis is a responsible professional position designing publicity and promotional materials for the Alachua County Library District.

An employee assigned to this classification designs, composes and oversees the production of promotional, informational and publicity materials presented to the public through various communications channels, including both print and non-print media. These materials may include (but are not limited to) brochures, flyers, posters, newsletters, advertisements, public service announcements, and displays.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

 Develops the layout and production design of magazines, posters, brochures, corporate reports and other publications by hand and with the aid of a computer. Produces promotional displays and marketing brochures and develops material for the Library District's web page, interactive media websites and multimedia projects.

Works with printers and other outside agencies in planning and reproducing brochures, book lists, flyer's, etc.

Designs and creates library displays.

Operates Library District graphics related equipment to produce print materials.
 
Takes photographs at library events and edits them with software for on-line and print publication.
 
Uploads digital images to various websites to promote the library and its services and programs.
 
Ensure patron compliance of all policies and procedures through effective communication and enforcement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of desktop publishing software, graphics or photo imaging software and video editing and audio software.

Skill in the use of a wide range of graphics, photo editing and layout software.

Skill in creating print-ready copy and mechanical artwork for printing.

Ability to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to printing, laminating, paper folding and cutting equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervision, outside vendors/media contacts and the general public.

Ability to effectively express ideas, both in written and verbal communications.

Ability to effectively prioritize and organize work and projects.

Ability to effectively describe and explain information and instructions to and from others.
