ESG Fund Coordinator, Student Environmental Center

About the Student Environmental Center:

A student-led initiative, the Student Environmental Center (SEC) engages students, faculty, staff, and the Asheville community in conversation, advocacy, and action around environmental issues, broadly defined.  We are a campus resource for information related to environmental stewardship, university sustainability processes and community outreach.

To achieve these goals, the SEC engages students from a variety of backgrounds in campus and community events and fosters sustainability initiatives by investing time and funds into these projects.

We strive for diverse inclusion of community and campus partners in fostering experimental and innovative projects, and we aim to increase collaboration between campus and community partners.  


The SEC is currently seeking a student to fill the role of ESG Fund Coordinator.  UNCA has an investment fund of $10,000 that is invested following Environmental, Social, and Governance guidelines.  Responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Meeting regularly with fund mentor, the SEC, and other crucial involved members

  • Analyzing financial reports and summarizing them into quarterly statements

  • Presenting to the Endowment/Investment Committee and/or Board of Trustees, and serving as a liaison between administration and students

  • Active involvement with the SEC and participation in activities outside the realm of investing

  • Ability to perform responsibilities and meet deadlines while remaining a student in good academic standing.


Students interested in applying for the position should have:

  • Expressed interest in both finance/investing and sustainability

  • Presentation/writing skills

  • Competence with Google docs/sheets

  • Demonstration of competency, financial literacy, ability to create acceptable work and conduct themselves in a professional manner


Hours & Compensation:

ESG Fund Coordinators are expected to work 5-8 hours per week (including required weekly staff meetings) when classes are in session, primarily at the SEC office at 174 Highsmith Student Union. Compensation is $8.50 per hour and must be reported on a weekly basis. Applicants are asked to make a commitment of two full terms (Fall & Spring).
